CIE / CPE Entrepreneurial Resource Meeting
January 22nd, 2013Tonight’s meeting was spectacular! We were happy to invite the folks from CIE (Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship) to come speak at our club. CPE (us!) and CIE are attached at the hip… sometimes it can be little unhealthy! We wanted to expose all of you to the potential resources and opportunities that are available for FREE in helping you to explore, cultivate, and propel your business and ideas!
Our entrepreneurial ecosystem is still very young at Cal Poly, but is growing at a tremendous rate! The sooner you get involved the better! Reach out to everyone and anyone! Have a conversation about what passions you have, and where you want to be in the future. It is our goal to motivate and inspire you to take control of your future, to innovate, and “take the road less traveled.”
Entrepreneurship is not about having an idea. Ideas come and go daily, they fester, they grow, and they fail. Entrepreneurship is about identifying opportunities, growing yourself, and brick-by-brick laying your own path – because most of the time, paths of traffic are broken and beaten; paths yet to be laid are interesting and your own.
Lastly, see the chart below to understand the different components of CIE. Please DO NOT HESITATE to email Jessie or Matt – they will love you! (:
| CIE Resources | “I’m new and interested” | “I have a legitimate idea” | “This business has potential” | Who to Contact |
| Developing Ideas and Businesses | Innovation Sandbox | Hatchery | HotHouse | Jessie Becker: jrbecker@calpoly.edu |
| Networking and Getting Involved | Forums | Elevator Pitch Competition | Entrepreneur In Residence | Matt Bleifer: mattbleifer@gmail.com |

2013 Hackathon!
January 17th, 2013CEO For a Day – CPE and SEC
November 13th, 2012What did you do today? I went to class, ate lunch, studied…. then I solved Google’s latest problem! Today CPE and SEC joined forces to solve the latest problems of the largest companies. From Facebook’s drop in stocks, to Microsoft’s Surface and how they will penetrate the market.
My team worked to solve this issue of adoption of Google’s latest innovation: self driving cars. We discussed three different areas of improvement: promotion, acceptance, and adoption. In order to inform the public of this new technology, we planned to create a video series on youtube featuring a variety of topics including worst case scenarios, in-car leisure time, and NASCAR races with Google’s car incorporated. Also, we plan to build test-drive stations where people can come and test drive the self-driving cars. Lastly, due to the extreme reliability of the vehicle, we plan to offer warranties and compensation upon the unfortunate instance of an accident.
CPE and SEC worked hand in hand to solve a variety of problems – and we can use your help too! Everyday we encounter problems and challenges that need solving. Solutions come from ideas, and ideas are culminated in the entrepreneurial sprit. Come to our next meeting for inspiration and a great time – your guaranteed to learn and leave motivated!
CMNTY Clothing
October 14th, 2012CMNTY clothing from wiissa on Vimeo.
CMNTY Clothing (pronounced ‘community’) is the product of a collaboration between two surfers, launched in 2011. Founder Caine Fair teamed up with long time friend Dylan Roley while both were attending college on opposite ends of the California coast. Hailing from Laguna Beach, both came together to create a brand dedicated to assisting the fight against ocean pollution and spreading the knowledge of marine conservation.
With backgrounds in clothing development and design as well as a strong passion for the ocean, the two established a movement. The Save The Sea Project was created as a way to help prevent and cure the pollution problem facing our ocean and marine life. In order to help the crisis, CMNTY will donate 15% of each clothing article sale directly back to organizations and research companies devoted to helping and restoring our ocean. As the name suggests, CMNTY’s focus is to connect communities around the world to join together in order to fight the current pollution problems facing our oceans and marine life.

Slidepad
April 23rd, 2012”
Slidepad is a new single lever braking technology that reduces the risk of front wheel lock up accidents on bicycles. It is a system that benefits the casual rider through increased safety and ease of use. Slidepad uses the momentum of the rear wheel to actively modulate the front brake, enabling smooth, controlled stopping power. The beauty of the system’s benefits lies in the ability to easily integrate into existing v-brake systems by replacing only a single pad.

Grinds
April 23rd, 2012“
What is Grinds?
Grinds, or Grinds Coffee Pouches, are small pouches of flavored coffee that can help you feel sharp and focused throughout the day or night. Each can contains 20 coffee pouches, each packed with plenty of B-Vitamins for energy and other important nutrients to keep you bright and alert.
How much caffeine or energy does Grinds contain?
Each can of Grinds Coffee Pouches contains the caffeine equivalent of 4-5 cups of coffee. With roughly 20 pouches contained in each can, each pouch is equal to about 1/4 cup of coffee. However, caffeine is just one of the many ways that today’s energy drinks and supplements deliver energy to the body. Grinds contains other key ingredients that allow you to feel focused and alert without the jitters of caffeine. In fact, each can has the same stuff you would find in any Red Bull or 5-Hour Energy, only at a more moderate level and without unnecessary liquid, calories, and carbonation of our competitors.

We believe
That life is too short to work at a boring company
Our Story:
In June 2009 on the day of Chris McCann‘s college graduation he threw all of his belongings into his car and moved up to Palo Alto in Silicon Valley with the hope of joining a startup and becoming part of the startup community.

Stacy Peralta – Be There!
April 17th, 2012Entrepreneurs,
This will be one of the raddeest Wednesdays of the year. Here’s what Wikipedia has on Stacy Peralta.
“At the age of 19, Peralta became the highest-ranked professional skateboarder. Soon after, he joined with manufacturer George
Powell to form the Powell-Peralta skate gear company. With the financial backing of Powell-Peralta, Peralta formed the seminal Bones Brigade, a skate team composed of some the best skaters at the time, many of whom revolutionized modern skateboarding. He also began directing and producing the first skating demo videos for skaters such as Tony Hawk.
In 1992, Peralta left Powell-Peralta to direct and produce for television full-time. His lingering love of the board manifested itself in the film, Dogtown and Z-Boys, a documentary film regarding the legendary skateboard team known as the Z-Boys, and Riding Giants, a 2004 documentary of the history of modern big wave surfing and tow-in surfing. Peralta also wrote the screenplay for the dramatic retelling of the Dogtown days in Lords of Dogtown (2005).
His most recently released film, Crips and Bloods: Made in America (2008),[1] focuses on gang violence in south-central Los Angeles which provides insights into the origins of the infamous Crips and Bloods with a look at the social injustice of 1950s and 60s L.A.
Peralta’s experience as an entrepreneur and skate demo filmmaker was adapted for the video game Tony Hawk’s Underground. In 2003 Peralta also did cameo work in the game where he played himself.”
Bring a friend. Bring your curiosity. See you then.
